We support children and families with complex neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism, ADHD, learning difficulties and disorders, global developmental delay, speech and language delays and more.

Our team is experienced in strategies to support fine and gross motor skill development, handwriting, social skill development, emotional regulation, and sensory processing profiles.

And we offer a range of screeners and assessments, including for autism, to help understand your child’s strengths and areas for development.

We also offer physiotherapy and hydrotherapy to address the different needs of children and adolescents as they develop their movement skills.

Successful movement is important to cognitive and physical development, and can help with learning and growing.

We can support your child in developing their independence and daily life skills to help them participate in their community.

What you can expect at Early Start Australia Christies Beach

  • Early intervention: We offer a strong early intervention program for children up to nine years old.
  • Strength-based approach: We take a strength-based approach to foster independence and resilience in school-aged children.
  • Flexible service delivery: Our services can be delivered in our clinic at Christies Beach, or via telehealth if that suits you better. We also offer mobile services around the southern suburbs of Adelaide in the home, at early learning centres, schools, and in community settings based on your personalised therapy plan.
  • Allied health assistants: AHA therapy programs offer a valuable opportunity to access support, either as a standalone service or as a complement to the therapy your child is already receiving through Early Start Australia.
  • Supporting early learning: We can support early learning centres and schools to best support their students.
  • Multidisciplinary team: Get the support you need in one location with our team of occupational therapists, speech pathologists and physiotherapists who work together to help your child reach their goals. We offer psychology and social work in collaboration with our Westbourne Park and Hindmarsh clinics.
  • Funding models: We work with some funding/rebate models. As a NDIS registered provider, we work with agency-managed, self-managed, and plan-managed participants. Private Health Insurance policyholders may be eligible for a rebate depending on the policy. We also work with Enhanced Primary Care plans for occupational therapy and speech pathology.

All programs are facilitated by occupational therapists, speech pathologists, psychologists, therapy assistants, or a combination.

In some cases, NDIS funding can be used to fund group program participation, you can discuss this option when making a booking.

In many cases this will be in the clinic setting with the support of our resources, however, if your therapy goals relate to supporting your child in the school environment or at home, we travel to your early learning centre, school, home or community location where we can support you and your child in their natural environment.

We listen to your needs and work with your goals in our therapy support plans.

We are a family-centred and neurodiversity affirming practice, passionate about empowering families to recognise their strengths and support them wherever possible.

We collaborate with our neighbouring clinics, Westbourne Park and Hindmarsh, to offer comprehensive therapy options to support complex needs and conditions.

You don’t need a general practitioner referral to see a speech pathologist or occupational therapist at Early Start Australia Christies Beach.

Yes!

We strongly encourage parent participation in therapy sessions to foster an inclusive and collaborative approach for your whole family.

Yes, siblings are welcome to attend.

However, there may be occasions when the therapy sessions are more productive without siblings present, depending on the focus of the session.

Children already attending appointments for one discipline will receive priority scheduling for additional disciplines within our centre.

This ensures a coordinated approach for the child’s comprehensive care within our collaborative practice model.

During your initial appointment (either in person or via telehealth) you will have the opportunity to meet with a therapist to discuss your goals and reasons for seeking therapy services.

Depending on your situation, this appointment may also involve an assessment.

It’s beneficial to bring along any relevant documents such as doctor’s referrals, funding letters, custody/parenting orders or reports that may be helpful for us to see.

If your child has a NDIS plan, please bring this with you as well.

Additionally, you will receive an email containing consent forms and important documents to read and sign.

Our Christies Beach clinic has immediate availability for most therapies.

If you require a specific day/time of the week, there may be a waitlist to access popular therapy times.

Practice Principal

Temika graduated from The University of South Australia with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy with First Degree Honours). Temika’s holds her clinical experience within the areas of disability and paediatrics.

Temika is passionate about using coaching techniques within her practice, empowering families to recognise their strengths and support them to problem solve challenges which arise.

Where possible, Temika likes to use resources naturally found in a child’s environment to promote ongoing practice of skills outside of their therapy sessions.

Temika’s motivation, enthusiasm and innovation drives her to be continually challenging the status quo and explore the possibilities which exist for all of us.
