Group programs at Ellenbook

Minecraft Builders

Over the recent school holidays, Early Start Australia’s Ellenbrook clinic ran a creative and skill-building holiday program that blended the imaginative world of Minecraft with hands-on LEGO activities.

The Minecraft Builders Group supported children to build more than just structures, they built confidence, communication, and friendships.

Led by a speech pathologist and an occupational therapist, the group provided a supportive environment where children could develop essential social skills, independence, and teamwork.

Through structured play and rotating roles of becoming a builder, supplier and engineer, participants engaged in building a Minecraft creation as a team that promoted learning across multiple domains.

Each session was designed to target key developmental goals, including social communication, teamwork and planning, the ability to give and follow instructions, and support of fine and gross motor skills.

A highlight of the program was watching the children form connections by engaging meaningfully with their peers and learning to work as a team.

They built friendships, shared ideas, and collaborated toward shared objectives.

These interactions allowed for a sense of belonging and mutual respect, while reinforcing the importance of cooperation, communication, and collective problem-solving in a supportive group setting.

We plan to run future Minecraft and LEGO-based holiday sessions.

Ellenbrook Eats: holiday cooking group

During the Term 2 holidays, ESA Ellenbrook was buzzing with energy as our beloved cooking group, Ellenbrook Eats, returned for three deliciously fun-filled days.

The group was led by our wonderful therapists, Felicia Tresham-Maung (SP), Gabrielle Widdeson (SP) and Jade Agius (OT).

The group was designed as a safe and supportive space where children could build social connections, develop independence, strengthen fine motor skills, explore new foods, and express their individuality and creativity.

Across the three days, the children whipped up four tasty recipes: yoghurt bark, pizza scrolls, and tacos.

The children explored the colours, textures, smells, and tastes of their dishes, and carefully weighed their creations, as Food Detectives.

It was a joy to see them proudly share their culinary masterpieces with their families (if there were any leftovers to bring home!).

We’re already counting down to the next round of Ellenbrook Eats – likely in January 2026, until then, we’ll be dreaming of tacos and pizza scrolls!
