Crafternoon/Crafterneeving at Early Start Australia Hawthorn

As part of our termly rituals, the Hawthorn team always finds a way to celebrate the end of term that’s equal parts fun, creative, and mildly chaotic.
It’s our chance to hit pause on the whirlwind of clinical schedules, reports, and meetings, and spend some quality time together as a team.
Last term, the team voted for a good old-fashioned Crafternoon – or more accurately, a Craferneeving, since we hung back after hours at the centre, swapped our therapy clothes for pyjamas, and changed the space into an area of bean bags, paint brushes, yarn, and a hesitant high motivation for creating artistry (even though it may not have turned out that way 😐).
With a bunch of craft kits from Kmart, we dove into everything from vase painting and stained glass creations to crochet and (thankfully for the craft-challenged around us, paint-by-numbers).
The evening was filled with laughter, 90’s tunes, reflections on the term, and ‘Wait, this yarn is black, how do I see where to go!? I give up!!’
Sheila, our fearless Program Coordinator, took on the ambitious task of crocheting an Australian animal.
Shaun, Sarah, Marissa, and Sherman powered through their knit-wares like seasoned pros, while Shannon lovingly painted her pet rocks (yes, actual rocks 😐).
Of course, no Hawthorn gathering is complete without a spread of cheese, snacks, and pizza.
Between bites, brushstrokes, and Sherman telling me we need to change my music (who doesn’t love Britney!?), we shared a lovely evening together.
Let’s see what’s on the cards this term!
